Spa Week Fall 2011

I attended the Spa Week Media Event at the Altman Building in New York this week and had a fun time getting pampered.  Who doesn’t like being pampered?  According to research by the International Spa Association, 143 million people went to the spa last year, and the number one reason was to reduce stress and relax. The most popular, sought after services - number one being massage - are also the most expensive; the average price of a massage is $85, a facial is $91, and a body treatment is $95. From everyday career and family obligations to an uncertain economy, it’s becoming more difficult than ever for consumers to justify spending time and money on spa treatments as a necessity rather than a luxury. That’s where Spa Week comes in.

Spa Week’s 15th installation is from October 10th to 16th and hundreds of day spas, medical spas, resort spas, yoga and Pilates studios and other health and fitness centers will offer two to three exclusive services for a discounted price of just $50 each.

Spa Week’s top ten hottest spa treatment trends for Fall 2011 are:

  • Shirodhara (Spilling oil on one’s forhead)
  • Bamboo Massage (Get rolled out like a sugar cookie to relax and relieve tension)
  • Cupping and Gua Sha (Suck and scrape away pain and stress)
  • Acupressure (Afraid of needles? Try this acupuncture alternative)
  • Bottoms Up at The Spa (Wine, champagne, beer and even whiskey spa treatments)
  • Shellac Attack (Manicures that keep going and going and going…)
  • Men’s Treatments (Men make up for 31% of spa goers; they’ve not been forgotten)
  • Mobile Spas (Spas on the go…not to be confused with Spa Week’s Mobile App)
  • Deep Sea Spa-ing (Hammams, Vichy Showers, Bath Soaks, Watsu…go for a dive)
  • Spa with a Conscience (Being pampered never felt so good!)

For more information and to see a list of participating spas, please visit www.spaweek.com.  Book your appointments now since Spa Week begins on Monday!
