Illamasqua recently launched their first fragrance called Freak. Freak was developed by master perfumer, Azzi Grasser. Freak is encased in a beautifully ornate art deco-inspired bottle, tilted to one side, as though confirming to the dictates of an alternative reality. Its smoked glass dances in the light and features a delicate silver snail and its trail, symbolizing an addictive passionate path of desire that is both distinctive and unusually provocative. I love the mystical scent and when I wear I feel sexy, alluring and daring. This is one of my favorite fragrances. The sensual fragrance has a unique concoction of dangerously exotic unconventional flowers that were blended to celebrate the night.
Black Davana, Opium Flower and Belladonna bewitch the senses into uncontrollable lust and passion.
Poison Hemlock, Datura and Queen of the Night blossom, caress and kiss.
Aromas of Frankincense, Oud and Myrrh, addictively mesmerises and captures the senses.
The rich and daringly provocative opening notes of Black Davana cast a magical spell of desire across the senses to celebrate the night. This compelling burnt orange bloom base is highly prized the world over for its ability to enhance the wearer’s natural perfume. The subtle mustiness of Poison Hemlock haunts the background tone of Freak, adding alluring depths of mystery.
Freak is available at Space NK and Sephora and retails for $90.
I recently attended the launch of Illamasqua’s Autumn/Winter 2011 Theatre of The Nameless Collection and I love the make-up. It is an adventure to try make-up inspired by the 1920s Berlin period.
“Theatre of the Nameless is a heady mixture of opulent hues, decadent pigments and fearless application. A bruised and burnished palette that gives a sensual slip, that bleeds color into color, worn through and kissed off.” - Alex Box, Illamasqua Creative Director
“This collection brings us back to the brand’s heritage, inspired by the essence of self-expression that transformed 1920s Berlin.” -Joseph Corré, Illamasqua Joint Managing Director
This rich and indulgent collection envelops the senses. Darkly sophisticated tones are accompanied by shocks of dazzling iridescence, creating a breathtakingly modern interpretation of the most illicit nightlife in history.
At the launch of the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection from Illamasqua, Theatre of the Nameless, lead U.S. makeup artist Andrea Helgadottir created two looks on one model, starting with a wearable everyday look, then building upon it to create an inspired art deco style. With the rich and indulgent makeup, she matched darkly sophisticated tones with shocks of dazzling iridescence to transformed the day look to a daring new level for night.
Using a foundation brush and just a pea size amount of Illamasqua’s Rich Liquid Foundation ($34), Helgadottir created a base with a velvet finish. She then used the versatile Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Façade ($20) on the eye area using her finger to dab the product onto the outside corners of the eye and directly onto the cheekbone to contour. She then applied the same product to the lips. Using a blush brush, she applied the neutral shade Shimmer Blusher in Ambition ($24) below the cheekbone, stroking it upward to make the cheekbone appear elevated, while allowing the shimmer blush to create an airbrushed, 3D effect. Helgadottir then used the light shimmer Pure Pigment in Beguile ($24) on the inner corners of the eyes to brighten the eyes. To accentuate the eye she lined above the upper lash line with the aubergine Precision Ink in Havoc ($27.50). She deemed this look “the dewy runway.”
Helgadottier then crossed the threshold and embraced a world of unadulterated decadence. Using the Precision Ink in Havoc as her artistry tool, she outlined above the eye crease and connected it to the line above the upper eye lashes. She then filled in the model’s entire eye brows, branching out the lines on just the right side and began to paint interwoven lines – flowing them down to just below the ear. To fill in the intricate shapes, she used items from Illamasqua’s past collections, including Illamasqua’s Cream Pigments in Bedaub, Mould, Dab ($24 each) and Liquid Metals in Phenomena, Enrapture ($26 each). She then topped off the sections with Pure Pigment in Beguile to add a shimmer finish. Again inspired by the versatility of the products, Helgadottir applied the blue violet Lipstick in Kontrol ($22) from the new autumn winter collection onto the eye and blended in using Pure Pigment in Beguile with a brush to create a wet look. On the left eye, she used Illamasqua’s signature Sealing Gel ($15) to mix with the dark shimmer Pure Pigment in Zeitgeist ($24) to create a paste-like texture and transform the loose pigment into a water-resistant shadow for an added dramatic effect. Helgadottier then applied the rosed flush Shimmer Blusher in Morale ($24) between the precision ink crease line and the eye brow for a pop of color. She added the Illuminator in Halcyon ($20) to the décolleté to accentuate her collar bone. To finish this daring night look; she applied the deep pink Intense Lipgloss in Belladonna ($20) for a juicy finish. Helgadottier presented the look as “2 different looks, a strong eye and then something more playful.”
It’s time to cross the threshold and embrace a world of unadulterated decadence.
